Marooned
Marooned . . .by mdg._
One thousand and one nights of naughty . . . . What else? She had been on this deserted of all other humans island from a child, also a ship wreck. That much I quickly learned, since her spoken language was limited, preferred the warm breezes to her bare skin for clothing, hunted and fished with natural ease. That I wrecked on this island was fate. Of all the hundreds of islands possible, I chanced on this one. I was only glad that I had left my passengers at the last port of call, deciding to make this leg alone. The first storm took my bowsprit and nearly the mainmast of my yawl. Jury rigged the forestay to the anchor winch to continue. The second storm battered my 'Iwalani' that compass was destroyed, radios, navigation aids gone, and now on jury rigged tiller. The final storm, some thirty six hours of it or more, I don't remember, slammed us on to the beach of this island. I estimated those storms had driven us at least a thousand miles southwest of my planned course.
'Iwalani' lying on her side on the beach, the easing storm still pounding us, I remained in the boat until daylight. By morning the seas were calm, much milder waves washing past us to the beach. I took a few important survival items, one small sail for cover, food, water and made a shelter at the edge of this tropical forest.
